Prof. Ordieres & Hua-Ping Zhang are Invited to Present Presentation on Big Data and Machine Learning
On March 14, 2014, the professor Ordieres ( from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain) and Hua-ping Zhang ( from Beijing Institute of Technology, China) were invited to present a presentation on big data and machine learning in our college. Professor Ordieres is a well-known scholar of machine learning in Europe, and his main research interests are on the aspect of big data application, machine learning, knowledge management, business intelligence, industrial control, etc. Professor Zhang is the inventor of ICTCLAS, a famous word segmentation software, and he had achieved the first prize winner of the Chinese Information Processing Science and Technology Award of Qian Wei-Chang in 2010. Now, Prof. Zhang is doing more than 10 research projects such as the National Science Foundation of China, and 863 /973 /242 National Projects, etc. During the seminar, Mr. Ordieres explained machine learning technology and some details on cloud computing, and the strategy on dealing with big data. Furthermore, he also presented the limitations on Hadoop and some new methods in this domain. Mr. Zhang, on the other hand, presented the related technologies on NLP and their applications on big data mining and information retrieval. Some teachers and researchers listened and discussed with the two professors. Furthermore, the 2012 and 2013 postgraduate students also attended the seminar. After that, the two professors went around and took photos in our beautiful campus.
